Demuth, a German immigrant, came to the US in the mid 19th century and, after a fair amount of working odd jobs, began work on making a name for himself. His handcrafted pipes didn't take long to gain popularity with the average joe and political figures alike. His crowning achievement would likely be his 32 inch carved meerschaum pipe
